The Internationalist Foundation
The IF is a dynamic network of young scholars and practitioners from different European and non-European universities. Registered as a non-profit foundation at the Chamber of Commerce of The Hague, its main objective is to produce academically-inspired journalism to foster borderless exchange and communication and bridge the gap between academic knowledge and civil society debates. All members of the organisation have strong links within the academic community through past collaboration in FP 6 programs (e.g. PEACE-COM) and via close cooperation with the organisation’s panel of scientific consultants including scholars from several universities. The knowledge of the young network helps bringing together members of civil society with representatives of the academic community. This mix is reflected in all of its publications appearing either in print or on its popular internet platform. Past publications have for instance focused on US foreign policy from an outsider’s perspective, Latin American election campaigns, pan-European environmental issues, German-Turkish architecture or social movements in France. The publication experience and communication skills of the IF are vital for the success of INFOCON, as all research results will have to be communicated in accessible formats to the special groups.
The structure of the board of directors reflects an international balance and dynamism, the average age of the board of directors being slightly below 26 years. The IF steered several projects, such as an exhibition and debating forum on French social movements at the IEP de Lille in April 2006. The IF is also steering a European Master Thesis Award. The organisation is funded by membership contributions, ad-hoc funding for specific projects and grants. It currently receives funding from the Youth in Action programme of the European Union. For INFOCON the IF will lead the management and dissemination team. It will manage the relations with the European Commission and will be in charge of the dissemination activities foreseen by the project, including non-scientific publications, conferences (in cooperation with IEP and UL/HEI ), and the E-platform.
