NAVEND - Zentrum für Kurdische Studien e.V.

NAVEND is the Kurdish word for “centre” and therefore stands for the aims and basic principles of this organisation, i.e. to be a meeting point for conversation, questions and debate. It was founded in 1992 as a non-profit registered association. The organisation aims to constitute a forum for open inter-cultural dialogue based on mutual respect. NAVEND is apolitical and independent. It is opposed to being affiliated to any political party or grouping. It sees itself as an interface between science and politics, institutions working for integration and their target groups and journalists and the interested public. NAVEND was founded in order to improve the knowledge and awareness of Kurdish migrants in Europe. The organisation was founded by Kurds from all over the world and Germans with the aim to work jointly on common problems and find solutions to them. NAVEND is committed to the principle of peaceful coexistence of different communities. Furthermore, it wants to contribute to stimulate the discussion on possible political solutions for the “Kurdish question”. NAVEND is concerned with Kurds from Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey and wants to provide factual and matter-of-fact information on their situation in their countries of origin and in their countries of settlement (with a special focus on Germany). In the framework of INFOCON, NAVEND will provide useful input and help for the case studies on Kurdish TCs as well as for the fieldwork on Kurds in Turkey. As the INFOCON consortium also includes the Zft which is mainly concerned with Turkey and migrants with Turkish origin, NAVEND will add the “Kurdish perspective” on the issues under examination.
