1. Welcome to the second INFOCON Newsletter

Dear Colleague,

This is the second of our monthly newsletters, a brief summer edition. The Management Team is very happy to bring the latest good news from the European Commission before the deserved summer holidays of our colleagues.

The INFOCON Management Team wishes a lovely summer for all partners and friends of the project.

2. INFOCON Grant Agreement signed!

The Internationalist Review, in its role of INFOCON coordinator, is very glad to announce that the INFOCON Grant Agreement was signed by the European Commission, and entered into force on 17 July 2008.

The Internationalist Review would like to thank to all partners and also the European Commission for all the work that was done to make INFOCON a reality!

3. INFOCON Website

The INFOCON website is passing through several modifications. After having some problems with the INFOCON intranet, the Management Team decided to move the website from its last server to a more powerful one. Now, our website is faster and able to host all new features that the IT Manager is currently developing.

A new intranet alert system was developed to notify the Consortium Members automatically if a new announcement is posted or a new document is uploaded. It will substitute the group mail consortium@infocon-project.org, which no longer exists in the new server. The idea is to foster the communication via the INFOCON intranet, taking care to warn all partners when there are new posts and comments.

4. INFOCON/DIASPEACE joint intranet

A joint intranet was set up in order to facilitate the share of research findings between the two sister projects and highlighting potential synergies with DIASPEACE by linking and promoting similar research interests and conceptual frame; commenting papers, discussion on conclusions/recommendations; joint dissemination, events & publications; etc.

The INFOCON/DIASPEACE is hosted at http://diaspeace.infocon-project.org. It requires the same username and password as the INFOCON intranet to login.

5. Guidelines for Case Study Reports

The revised version of guidelines for the production of “mini” case study reports in the frame of work package 1 and 2 of the INFOCON project is available at the project’s intranet (http://internal.infocon-project.org). The aim is to create seven short, descriptive reports with the help of pre-defined templates: four on the European cities and three on the regions of origin under examination. These “mini” case study reports will help the research direction (Université Catholique de Louvain, UCL) to set up a draft version of the transversal questionnaires to be used during the planned fieldwork of the project in the cities and the regions of origin. Furthermore, the “mini” reports constitute a first step toward the finalisation of Deliverable 2.1; namely extensive case study reports on the four cities and the three regions of origin due in June 2009.

6. Other news

The Université Catholique de Louvain is concluding the first INFOCON deliverable to be handed by the end of August. Overall guidelines were developed, defining content, style and objectives, for the case study reports so as to ensure the comparability and effective communication/dissemination of the final reports.

The research direction (UCL) would like to thank for the feedback and comments of several members of the INFOCON consortium.

On behalf of the INFOCON Management Team,
